5 Tips For New Affiliate Marketers – What the Guru’s won’t tell you

Do you want to become an affiliate marketer, but don’t know where to start?

Are you looking for an opportunity to build an online business that provides passive income and more freedom?

We all want more time and freedom, but few manage to do so successfully. This article contains a few tips for Affiliate Marketing Beginners so you don’t get led off on the wrong path and end up giving up on your dreams.

1. Don’t give in to the “Shiny Object Syndrome”

Hundreds of new products are launched daily, all promising fast commissions with no actual work when, in reality, there is no real way to build a stable online income without putting in the time and effort upfront. Sales pages are all very persuasive, and you will be hard-pressed to resist the pitch. Each product will speak to you personally, present you with an opportunity to make money with ease, but this is not realistic.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that there is no value in these programs if you have the money to spend, but it is, in many instances, a short-term solution.

The best way to build a sustainable and scale-able online income is still to be patient, spend the time, do the work and build your business organically to provide you with passive income for years to come. The foundation that you lay down for your business will dictate how successful you will be in the future, so choose to do it the right way.

When you have established yourself and made some money, you can branch into paid services that will grow your business faster.

2. Do your due diligence to find the right affiliate marketing training

Partner with the mentor that is right for you. And believe me, you will need a mentor to guide you through the beginning stages of your business. Mentors have been through the growing pains of starting an online business. They already have the experience and knowledge to help you be successful, which they packaged into training courses just for you. So why reinvent the wheel?

“Standing on the shoulders of Giants”; as someone once called it. They have already done the work, so leverage their knowledge in your journey.

Not all affiliate training programs are created equal, and each is about as individual as a human being. You will encounter many different training programs along your journey, so you have to be sure that the one you choose meets your needs and personality. Work with like-minded people with whom you are comfortable.

Here you will have to spend some money, but it will be worth the investment in returns. I urge you to find a good mentor to fast-track your online success.

3. Create a blog right away

Even if you feel you have nothing to say, a blog is still the best foundation that you can give your business. It is how you communicate with your audience, with helpful content that adds value.

You can write about your own experiences traveling, share some specific knowledge, create stories, etc. The list is endless. Don’t worry about what others might think of it. Your blog is your very own blank canvas to do with as you please. Use it without apology… 🙂

“Why would anyone want to listen to what I have to say?”, you ask. Well, I am an introvert and asked myself this question every day for a very long time. I was unable to write any content because I was self-sabotaging. This was until I realised that the important thing is to get started and not perfection. Your content doesn’t have to be perfect right off the bat; it must just be there.

It’s OK, you are still learning, and it will improve over time. With billions of people on the internet daily and 600 million blogs, the resources at your disposal are almost endless.

If your content adds value to your visitors, then you will have no trouble establishing a rapport with them and gaining their trust. This will take a bit of time but will be well worth it.

Most social media platforms and forums are great for traffic but do not like affiliate links and could potentially penalise you for using them directly in a post or comment. So, write a good blog post or review, add a call to action (with an embedded link) and then market the link to your post instead. You will be far more acceptable and successful.

Many people believe that SEO is dead, but this is not the case. Google has been around for a long time and is still the biggest search engine on the internet, with over 3 billion searches done every day, and will most likely only grow into the future. If you do a bit of research on the statistics of some websites, you will notice that direct search remains one of the largest forms of organic traffic, sometimes more than social media.

So it follows that, for your website to be seen and visited, you must make sure that your site is optimized for SEO so Google’s bots can find you.

5. Start building your list immediately

The money is in the list. I am sure you have heard this many times before because it is true. Email marketing remains the most effective of all strategies and could have an incredible impact on your website traffic and revenue.

According to the Direct Marketing Association, email marketing provides an average return on investment (ROI) of 4300% in the US.

Your list subscribed because they like what you had to offer. On average, it takes about 7 times for someone to see an offer before they decide to buy, so growing and using an email list that you can continuously market to is very effective.

You can also offer exclusive promotions and discounts, coupons, give away free stuff (everybody likes free stuff), or any number of things to engage with your list and offer value. Always offer value first; this instills trust in the mind of your subscriber – you are not just out to make money from them, you care about them – we buy from those we like and trust.

Many affiliate programs will tell you that you can make money without building a list. This is true, in part, but all you are, in fact, doing is growing their list off of your efforts. You end up losing hundreds of potential customers.

Reasons you should build a list:

  1. Easily communicate with your Customers
  2. Get your visitors to return
  3. Email is personal
  4. You own your email list
  5. More opportunities to re-market and make more money
  6. Email builds trust
