Affiliate Marketing 101 – How to Get Started

So, you want to be an Affiliate Marketer?

Affiliate marketing is one of the most lucrative home business opportunities around today. With the world moving more and more towards online shopping because of COVID-19, opportunities are endless for those willing to put in the time and effort.

With some basic training, you can easily set up an affiliate business and get started in a couple of weeks.

Affiliate programs are free to use are the best way for you to sell someone else’s products and get paid for it. Affiliate programs are a great way to sell on the Internet without getting into product creation.

How Affiliate Marketing works:

You decide on a product and market it online. The product creator is responsible for the product, processing the payments, shipping the merchandise, and handling of complaints. You get paid a commission for every product sold through your marketing efforts. It is a truly brilliant business model.

Affiliate Marketing requires very low, or no, start-up costs. Many of the tools you would need to get started are either free or offer a free trial. You can also make use of free traffic methods, otherwise known as organic traffic, to get the ball rolling.

What about traffic?

There are also many paid traffic methods that you can use if you have a bit of money to spend. The pay-off with paid traffic is quicker than with organic traffic, but you should make use of a combination of both for your business to thrive, since organic traffic tends to be more evergreen than paid traffic.

And starting a Blog?

You should start by creating a blog where you share information related to your chosen niche. Blogging platforms are free to use and offer a great way to get started with a website.

Some examples of the more popular blogging platforms are:

  1. Worpress
  2. Wix
  3. Weebly
  4. Blogger by Google

Personally, I prefer WordPress for the features and ease of use it offers.

Once you have set-up your blog you can monetize it by placing affiliate links to products strategically on your site. For example, let’s say you own a blog giving people information about Dog Training. You could place links to products related to Dog tTraining on your blog, such as dog training courses or dog trainers. When your visitors click on your links they will go to the website you are promoting. If they buy, you will be paid a commission. And all that for simply providing valuable information. Doesn’t get much easier.

You can find affiliate programs just about anywhere these days. A good way to find programs you’d like to join is by doing a search on your chosen topic. See what your competition is doing for a place to start.

Some examples of good affiliate programs are:

  1. Clickbank
  2. Warrior Plus
  3. JV Zoo

Clickbank is the easiest to start with as a new affiliate marketer, since it does not require that you be approved to sell affiliate products.

If you do a quick search online for the words affiliate or partners you will soon find that there are almost no merchants who do not offer an affiliate program in one form or another. If you’re going to have a website or blog, you should definitely use your affiliate links.

When you register for your chosen affiliate program you will receive your own personal ID number. When you place your affiliate link on your blog or website, you will use a link address which includes your unique ID. Anyone who makes a purchase via your personal link racks up commissions for you. These commissions are paid based on the pay schedule of that program.

Easy as pie? Right? The truth is, you will probably need some coaching along the way, so be sure to have a look at our Marketplace for recommended products to get you started on your journey.

The most important thing is to just get started. You won’t earn until you learn. It doesn’t have to be perfect, you are still learning, just take action for now. You can always tweak and improve as you gain experience.
